What does the Variation Diagnostic do?

The Variation Diagnostic reviews components of your healthcare system and prioritises them for you. It is an essential tool for understanding healthcare utilisation in your local population.

It will help you quickly and concisely identify over and under utilised services, unwarranted variation in care and anomalies in performance or data that may require further investigation.

 


  • Insightful information into your healthcare system
    The Variation Diagnostic begins with a detailed review of data relating to the population served by your practices and their specific healthcare needs. It provides you with a comprehensive review of variation in clinical decision making within your practices. This includes use of inpatient services, outpatient, A&E usage and levels of prescribing.
  • A three tier benchmark approach to give you a complete picture
    The Variation Diagnostic benchmarks your data at three levels to provide context and perspective.

    • Individual GP practice level - compares utilisation levels for individual practices within your group.
    • Consortium level - compares the utilisation levels of GP practices in your group, compared to other GP practices in the local area.
    • Regional level - compares healthcare services for your existing PCT to regional and national benchmarks. This provides a high level health services landscape for comparison.
